What dose it mean when you have a sharp pain in your chest?

When I inhale too deeply I got this sharp pain in my chest. It was in my ribcage, near where the rib would line up under the edge of my left right next to where the two sides of my ribcage converge in the middle. I was leaning back against a pillow that is up against my headboard and when I sat up and held my breath for a little while the pain went away. What is this pain?
